What Is Seer And Why Should It Matter To Me

Find The Perfect Bryant Evolution® System For Peak Efficiency and Savings

When you are in the market looking for high energy efficiency systems, finding the right  equipment that has the potential to save money, S.E.E.R. ratings help you figure out which cooling systems are the most efficient.

 WHAT EXACTLY IS S.E.E.R.?

S.E.E.R. stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is a performance standard mostly applied to central air cooling systems and developed by combined efforts between the U.S. government and equipment manufacturers with the intent to create a rating system that is easily understood by the public.  Think of it like the MPG (miles per gallon) efficiency of your car.

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN?

The number that is associated with a S.E.E.R. rating is based on British thermal units (BTUs), but simply put— it measures unit usage per watt of electricity.   The higher the number, the more efficiently a product will produce cool air compared to a product with a lower number.  For example, a Bryant system with a s=S.E.E.R. rating of 19 is more efficient than one with a S.E.E.R. of 13.    With the Bryant Evolution system, you can buy up to a 20 S.E.E.R. rating — delivering high energy-efficiency and better performance.

What Is The Relationship With Energy Star?

S.E.E.R., as well as the E.E.R., ratings are both included in the Energy Star specifications. While S.E.E.R. more accurately represents the efficiency of an appliance on a seasonal basis, E.E.R. predicts the system's ability to perform efficiently on peak days.

Some governments have instituted laws, mandating a specific minimum level of energy efficiency, as measured by a S.E.E.R. ratio.  For example, in the United States, all air conditioners sold on or after January 1, 2006 are required to have a S.E.E.R. rating of at least 13.  Air-conditioners that are mounted in windows are not affected by this law, and it is common for these to have a rating of about nine or ten.  For a unit to have the special Energy Star certification, its rating must be at least 14.

As someone who really understands all this lingo,  Mid-Atlantic Carrier Dealers will do "whatever it takes" to help you meet your needs; help you purchase and install your new system; and provide ongoing support and maintenance to keep your system running smoothly for years to come.

Puron
Environmentally sound, chlorine-free Puron® Refrigerant is the refrigerant of the future. Developed to replace R-22 refrigerant, Puron Refrigerant is not only environmentally sound, but is also more efficient. In fact, Carrier was among the first heating and cooling manufacturers to use a non-ozone-depleting refrigerant, such as Puron Refrigerant.
